Check
Play on a digital piano. Connect it here, or upload a MIDI file. The page measures your timing, swing and chords. Do the same check every week and compare.
Not connected
Play swung eighth notes for the whole test. Any notes: a scale, a solo, or a song melody. You get one bar of count-in.
Play each chord shown. Play the chord only, all notes together. A wrong chord counts as a mistake. Fix it to move on.

What the numbers mean
- Spread
- How much your beats wobble, in milliseconds. Lower is better. Measured on notes that land on the beat.
- Offset
- On average, are you ahead (−) or behind (+) the click? A little behind is normal in jazz. Bluetooth headphones add delay, so use the speaker or a cable.
- Tempo
- Your tempo in the first and last part of the take. Same numbers means you held it steady.
- Swing ratio
- Long eighth note divided by short eighth note. 1.0 is straight. 2.0 is a triplet feel. Good players swing harder at slow tempos and flatter at fast ones.
- 2 and 4
- How much louder your notes on beats 2 and 4 are than on 1 and 3. Only for live takes.
- Accuracy
- Chords right on the first try.
- Speed
- Chords per minute, mistakes included.
Swing targets follow Friberg & Sundström: swing ratio drops as tempo goes up. Spread and speed targets are my own rough goals.
Live connection works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox on a computer, and Chrome on Android. Safari and iPhone can't connect, but uploading a .mid file works everywhere.
